I am a big fan of ruggedized phones, as I do alot of wrenching and drinking, which leads to all kinds of cell phone abuse. I have a Casio GZ'one 3G, and a 4G, but my favorite phone that was never touted as ruggedized but may as well have been, is the Blackberry Bold. Damn phone got dropped in running engines a number of times, launched off moving fan blades, run over, sprayed with coolant, run over again, hoods dropped on it, left on an intake manifold then driven away and found 3 hours later after being on the road. To this day, 4 years after I bought it, still has a full days worth of battery life. on the original battery. Though battle scarred and duty worn, that keypad still works with a 2mm layer of petroleum based goo on your fingers. I hook it back up every time I know I am going deep on a car, and that is a testament to quality.
Today, I see they are coming out with the Passport, and I hope it is based on the same qualities. And I hope my carrier didn't sever the contract with RIM.
Also my 3G Casio has seen similar abuse, but the battery life sucks, and it was built for it

I found that impact-resistant glass is one thing, but the LCD element being impact resistant is yet another: dropped my phone (a Kyocera) and broke the internal screen without breaking anything else on the exterior. HURR. Fortunately, good used whole phones are about $45, so one quick organ donation later and I was back in business.

the slush killed it for real? I didn't submerge mine but it has spent some time in a snow bank and gotten splashed heavy quite a bit with no effects

I thought we on oppo were well familiar with the concept of harvesting organs from other things than people. I mean, we have *Tohru*.

The last one was I ran over it with the tire (THE TIRE!) if a small lawn tractor, picked it up, and the hinge was broken.

yea, I was at the bottom of the driveway(hill), so the slush was deep. plus I ran it over for good measure before I noticed it laying face down. I stared at if for a second, "that looks like my phone....that is my phone..."
I still have it, and on occasion I pull it out of the junk drawer to remind me what could have been...

Oh ok, yeah all mine were flips. My shitty ZTE Majesty smartphone has taken what beatings I've given it very well.

I think the other 3, or at least most of the other 3, developed a crack and water got in through them.

I had a samsung that looked like this after a rollerblading accident (I was equally broken with 2 sprained wrists, a sprained elbow and a broken elbow) but the bottom half STILL WORKED. The speaker phone speaker was in the bottom half so I was able to make phone calls on speaker, I had 5 speed dials set up so I had the "important" numbers until I got a new phone the next day. Was hysterical to use though.

well my destroyed arms weren't awesome especially when I had a professor force me to write a written exam literally hours after the accident happened (and then have the nerve to tell me I didn't write enough for each answer and give me a failing grade, yes i fought it, yes I got the grade dropped, I offered to provide xrays if he wanted).
But the phone kicked ass lol!

I had a pulled muscle and a teacher told me I wasn't writing high enough on the board, obviously a little less severe than your case.
Also, because I'm a little shit I started writing on the wall above the board.

LOL
Yeah my left arm was in a sling and I could barely move my entire right arm (I'm a righty) the entire class of about 125 people were like "are you fucking kidding me? you're making him take the exam?!"
Sad part is I knew the info inside and out and I loved the material of the class. Was Intro to Political Philosophy at MSU. Shame the prof was a DICK.
Sat in the 1st or 2nd row every day too.
And yea, you would write on the wall wouln't you hahaha

That phone will be much more fragile than your trusty sidekick. What you want is their new version of the Bold:

I saw that. Does that have a glass screen on it? I think that would have been the downfall of the old one.

it is touchscreen, I think. But the small screen size helps with drops. The larger the glass screen the more likely it is to crack when you drop it.
I had a touchscreen Bold I bought in 2012. It dropped many times and never broke.
